okay so I just bit the bullet and tried to do a soft partition sestore. Problem was it wasn't able to start all the way up. It's on a loop of reatarting. I even tried to do a destructive restore but no avail. So I want to know if I go buy an so disc will I be able to reformat and start all over from the restarting screens? I get BIOS or recovery screen. And on my gateway 504gr would I be able to run vista if I couldn't find xp?

Sounds to me like you may have hard drive problems...I would download the respective manufacturer's diagnostic and run it on the drive (long test, if short/long are offered).
Hard Drive Installation and Diagnostic Tools - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/28744/hard-drive-installation-and-diagnostic-tools/
If you buy a genuine copy of XP...the install should go smoothly on a drive/system that doesn't have problems. Since, IMO, you have possible hardware problems that impact installing anything...I would run the hard drive diagnostic before deciding the next course of action.
System manufacturer and model...or motherboard manufacturer and model?
How much RAM installed?
How much free space on C:?

Making routine backup images of your partitions/drives...using 3d-party software...is probably the most important activity that any user can engage in.

There is his info Hamluis,
Xeno, you need to put XP on that machine, if you want vista than you will need to add more memory and seperate GPU (graphics card), sadly your board can only hold a maximum of 2 GB of RAM, so to be fully honest, vista would run miserably on your computer. As of the system being stuck in a continual loop of restarts, it would seem that the restore caused your problems, which is something that happens more often than it should.
Here is a nice wiki article about system restore and how it works.
It would not hurt to run a harddrive diagnostics test like Hamluis suggested, however your initial problem seems to lie within your original installation of windows. It is also possible that there could be other hardware problems, but for now, lets stick with the cheap route and troubleshoot from the software side of the tree.
With 9 million customers all paying roughly 13-15 dollars a month, blizzard sure needs to be MORE than willing to assist in any way possible, however, im not blizzard :-/ lol. So lets see if we can get you goin.
Being stuck in an infinite loop is the result of a problem with the OS loading and then saying... wait, something is missing, ill try again. So I would like you try restarting in safe mode. To do this, just start hitting F8 steadily when your computer is starting up, it will than bring up a menu and you will have the choice to start windows normally or use safe mode, just use your arrow keys to go into safe mode. If you are able to access safe mode than it is obvious that a critical windows file is not missing and you should be able to assess the situation further. If this is the case, let me know and we will work from there...
If you are unable to access safe mode, than it is clear your windows installation has become corrupted. Your next step to acquire a GENUINE Windows XP installation CD. Put the cd in your tray and start your pc, you will then reach a screen asking you if you want to run a system repair console or continue to windows install, DO NOT DO THE FIRST REPAIR OPTION, it will just open up windows repair console and you will be lost and have to restart your pc, just continue to the next screen. DO NOT CHOSE TO FORMAT ANYTHING YET. You will then be given the chance to run Windows Repair. What this will do is scan your computer for missing or corrupt critical system files, that are required to make your PC work properly. Allow the repair to go through, if you can access windows again than let me know and we will continue from there and start troubleshooting WOW.
If this fails as well, than your system is likely to be corrupted to a state that it cannot be recoverable. Mind you if there is anything you want off your computer, you may want to hook it up to a different pc as a slave drive and get the info/pictures/music/movies/Quest helper etc. that you want off it.
Now, what you need to understand is the next idea will completely wipe everything out on your hard drive. So now we need to do a clean install of windows xp. Put your cd in the tray and start it up, choose to continue until you are at the partition screen, be sure to delete all partitions. Next format the hard drive, BE PATIENT, it is definitely worth it to do a full format of the hard drive and stay away from the quick format, the difference is that the full format creates many many many organized blocks to hold information in, keeping it organized and clean. A quick does not, it simply creates many sectors and information is pretty much scattered all over, and you will eventually run into problems as the hard drive becomes filled up. So be patient and do the full format. After it formats you will than begin your install. Follow the on screen setup and wait for your install to complete. During the setup the computer will restart many times and prompt you to "press any key to boot from disc", AFTER you have done that the first time and reformatted your drives and began your install, you do not want to boot from disc again, so just dont hit any keys during that screen except for the first time. Once your install is finished it will restart again and load windows, you will log on and have a fresh install of windows. Next activate windows, either over internet or phone, than install any drivers that you need for your pc to work properly, you should have a drivers cd that came with your pc. Next go ahead and install WOW, allow your updates and patches to install, burning crusade, wrath of the lich king, whatever you have. If you run into problems again that the situation needs to be looked into even more, let us know what happens. :-)

Sorry for the delay. So I had decided to purchase a new computer, long story short - I regreted it because I'm attempting to go through college and have little funds. So I logged on here through my iPod to see whats up. I tried the Safe Mode thing, and I got it to start up fine! I made recovery CDs and Wrath is even installing. AIM is working, better than it ever did before. I will run the diagnostics just to be sure, but thanks a helluva lot guysss!!! :DDDD

Oh it's great. The only problem I had installing Wrath was the regular problems with some of their installations but was able to overcome that. Acts brand freakin new. Thankss
